What does a website cost in Switzerland?

The short answer

It depends on how much the website needs to do. A simple website made with a site builder can cost a few hundred francs plus a monthly fee. A website designed and built for you by a studio usually costs a few thousand francs, plus hosting and care. With me, these are the fixed prices:

  • One-PagerCHF 990 – 1'490 · ready in 7 working days
  • Business websiteCHF 2'990 · ready in 14 working days
  • Customfrom CHF 4'900 · ready in 3–4 weeks
  • Care planCHF 59 / month

What the price depends on

  • Number of pages. One scrolling page is quicker than a website with several pages for services, team and references.
  • Texts and photos. If you bring them, it is cheaper. If they still need to be written, it takes more time. Good own photos are worth more than any stock image.
  • Features. A contact form is standard. An online shop, bookings, payments or a second language take noticeably more work.
  • Own design or template. A template is quick but looks like many others. An own design fits your business, but takes more time.
  • Care after launch. Hosting, updates and small changes are ongoing costs. Ask about them before you decide.

Three ways to get a website

Build it yourself

With a site builder you can start for little money. In return you need your own time, pay a monthly fee and are tied to the platform. Moving away later is often difficult.

Small studio or freelancer

One contact person from start to finish, usually with a fixed price. Good for small and medium-sized businesses that want a proper website without a big budget.

Larger agency

A whole team with project managers, designers and developers. Makes sense for large projects, but usually costs considerably more.

Ongoing costs

Every website has three running costs: the domain (your address, e.g. yourbusiness.ch), the hosting (the server the website runs on) and the maintenance (updates, security, small changes). Some providers include everything in a monthly price, others charge separately.

With me, the Care plan costs CHF 59 / month and includes hosting in Switzerland, updates and small changes. You can cancel it any month. Without it, you pay hosting and domain directly to the provider.

How to spot hidden costs

Before you compare offers, ask every provider these questions:

  1. Can I change texts and images myself? If not, every small change costs you money.
  2. What does it cost after one year? Some offers are cheap at the start and expensive every month after.
  3. Who owns the domain and the website? If you leave, you should be able to take both with you.
  4. Who helps me if something breaks? A name and a phone number are worth more than a ticket system.

Two example calculations

Hair salon with one page

  • One-Pagerfrom CHF 990.00
  • Care plan, 12 monthsCHF 708.00
  • First yearfrom CHF 1'698.00

Carpentry with several pages and a logo

  • Business websiteCHF 2'990.00
  • LogoCHF 390.00
  • Care plan, 12 monthsCHF 708.00
  • First yearCHF 4'088.00

From the second year, only the care plan remains. Domain costs depend on the provider.

Conclusion

A cheap website is not automatically good value, and an expensive one is not automatically better. What matters is that you know the full price up front, can make changes yourself and have someone who helps you. Ask for a fixed price and the costs after one year.
